Remove Tree Stakes from Trees
Posted on 01/16/20
A notice went out from the management company today reminding owners to remove stakes and straps from trees that no longer need them. Below is the notice text:
Please remove tree supports and stakes from mature trees. When supports are not removed once the tree no longer needs them, they can grow into the tree and cause damage including stunted growth or death of parts of the tree. Beginning with the first inspection in February, violations will begin for properties that have supports or stakes for mature trees. Thank you for your help in keeping your community beautiful!
According to
Horticulture Magazine, "there really isn't a set answer to when you should remove tree stakes. In general, the tree shouldn't need the support for more than six months to a year—or after one growing season. In fact, stakes left too long can actually hinder development—trees need to sway freely in the wind in order to grow stronger trunks."
